Installation Rules Paper 2 Practice Questions
Paper 2 of the Installation Rules exam is the calculation-and-design half — where a reliable method matters more than memorising clauses. These practice questions let you rehearse those calculations until they are automatic.
What Paper 2 covers
Where Paper 1 tests the rules, Paper 2 tests whether you can apply them. Questions cover load and maximum-demand calculations, cable and conductor sizing, voltage-drop checks, protection and circuit-breaker selection, earth-fault loop and bonding, and the design decisions that keep an installation compliant with SANS 10142-1. Most are worked problems with a single correct numerical answer.
How the practice and exam modes work
Every calculation answer in Wireline is computer-verified, so when Practice mode marks you it is checking against a worked result, not a typo. Practice mode shows the answer and points you to the relevant part of the code; Exam mode times you and marks at the end against the real 50% pass mark. Filter the bank to Paper 2 only, or isolate a single topic — voltage drop, say — and drill the method until it sticks.
Sample Paper 2 question types
Expect to be handed a load schedule and asked for the maximum demand, a cable run and asked whether the volt drop is within limits, or a circuit and asked for the correct protective-device rating. The Wireline Paper 2 set is 440 original, exam-style questions — by far the larger half of the 530-question bank — each tagged with its topic and a pointer to the area of SANS 10142-1 or the regulations to study.
Paper 2 practice questions — quick answers
What does Paper 2 of the Installation Rules exam cover?
Paper 2 covers the calculation and design side of the trade test: load and maximum-demand calculations, cable and conductor sizing, voltage drop, and protection. It tests whether you can apply SANS 10142-1, not just recall it.
How many Paper 2 practice questions are there?
Wireline has 440 original Paper 2 questions — the larger half of a 530-question bank. A free preview is open to everyone; full access unlocks the complete set and the timed Exam simulator for one exam cycle.
Are the calculation answers reliable?
Yes. Every calculation answer in Wireline is computer-verified against a worked result, and each question points you to the area of SANS 10142-1 or the regulations to study so you can check the method.
What is the pass mark for Paper 2?
You need at least 50% on Paper 2. Score 75% or more and you are permanently exempt from rewriting it. Both papers must be passed within 12 months of each other, otherwise both must be rewritten.
